Ruth A. (Grafton) Jack, 91, of Winslow, Ariz., formerly of Slate Lick, went to be to the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005 in Winslow. She was born Oct. 24, 1913 in Armstrong County to Robert and Beulah (Livengood) Grafton. Mrs. Jack moved to Winslow in 1961 after the death of her husband, Stanley J. Jack, to do mission work on the Navajo reservation for 35 years. Survivors include one son, Gary Jack and wife Dorothy of Winslow; two grandsons, Wayne and Chris, both of Winslow; one great-grandson, Gavin of Winslow; one stepson, James Jack and wife Betty and family of New Kensington; two brothers, Stanton F. Grafton of Virginia and Clair Grafton of Ford City; and four sisters, Hazel Porterfield of Michigan, Vera Spencer, Marie Culp and Idell Moyta, all of Ford City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died February 1959; two brothers, Omar and Kenneth; and three sisters, Naomi, UnaEdna and Avanell. Funeral services were held Sept. 17 at the First Baptist Church in Winslow. Burial was in Desert View Cemetery.

Stanley Jack, 57, of Kittanning RD 4, died at 7:05 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 8, 1959) in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Where he had been admitted a short time earlier. Mr. Jack was born Dec. 19, 1901 in North Buffalo Township, a son of Harvey S. and mary Hodgson Jack. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church and a retired employee of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, Works No. 4 Gas department. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth (Grafton) Jack; two sons Stanley J. Jack, New Kensington; Gary Jack, at home; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Green, Illinois; Mrs. Ethel Baker, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three brothers, Lewis M. Jack, Indiana, Alton jack and Earl Jack, both Kittanning RD 4. Friends may call at Merwin (Smith) funeral home until noon Wednesday. The body will be removed then to the Union Baptist Church and viewed from 1 to 2 p.m. -- the time of service. Rev. H. Franklin Miller, pastor of the church, will conduct the service. Burial will be made in the family plot in Slate Lick cemetery.

Lois J. Jaman, 76, of Bethlehem, died January 4, 2007 in her home. She was the wife of Hank Jaman. They were married for 54 years. Born in Palmerton on August 19, 1930, she was a daughter of the late LaRue and Elerta (Stehler) Leibenguth. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Bethlehem Township. Elizabeth M. Johnson, 76, Main St., Berlin, died March 1, 1977, in Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born May 1, 1900, in Brothersvalley Township, the daughter of the late, Charles W. and Elenora Critchfield Knepper, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Blanche Raymond. She is survived by husband, Walter A., a daughter, Mrs. Jacob (Geraldine) Stutzman, St. Paul, Minn.; a grandson, Walter J. Stutzman, New Haven, Conn., and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Berlin Brethren Church, Second Society of Farm Women, Trinity Chapter 138 Eastern Star, a director of the Childrens Aid society, Berlin Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary Post 445 in which she held offices in all of the chairs. She was a past president of the Bi-County Council, past president of the Past Parley, past district director, department chairman for Pennsylvania for the communications, coupons, poppies and juniors. She was a member of the Twenty-Niners and a member of the Salon No. 291 or the 8-40. Friends were received in the Johnson and Son Funeral Home, Berlin where services were held with the Rev. Ralph E. Mills officiating. Interment, Berlin IOOF Cemetery.

Ernest O. Johnson, eighty-three, 534 West Front street, Berwick, died in Berwick Hospital Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock where he had been a patient since January 4. Son of the late Mason C. and Laura Smith Johnson, he was born in Berwick August 1, 1883. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Men's Bible Class and BPOE 1138, Berwick. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. His wife, Pauline McMichael Johnson, preceded him in death December 1964. Surviving are his son, J. Russell Johnson, Decatur, Ga., two grandsons, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the James L. Hinckley Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Mark Califf, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street, Berwick.

JOHNSON– Norma F., 90, formerly of Summerhill,  died March 21, 2013, in Columbia, Md.  Born Nov. 25, 1922, in South Fork, daughter of Durell and Geraldine C. (Whitely) Joll.  Preceded in death by parents; husband, Elmer D. Johnson, who died, Jan. 5, 1991; and brothers, Charles and Rodney Joll.  Survived by sons, Dennis, married to Sally Nyland, Gettysburg, and Ernest, married to Susan Bohannon, Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Marcia, wife of Kevin McNeeley, Columbia, Md.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack, married to Virginia Weitzel, York, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Norma was a graduate of South Fork High School, Class of 1940.  She was a member of Wesley UMC, South Fork.  She worked as a clerk for the former McCrory's store, and along with her husband, owned and operated the Country Inn for many years.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Ruth Ann (Hess) Johnson-Styers, 74, of 226 E. Sixth St., Berwick, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 13, 2002, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she had been a patient since Monday. She had been in failing health for two months. Born April 21, 1928, in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Edwin Brown Hess and Esther Klinger Hess. A lifelong resident of Berwick, she was a 1946 graduate of Berwick High School. Before his death, Mrs. Styers assisted her first husband, Dr. Ralph G. Johnson, with his optometry practice in Berwick for many years. She had also been employed at the former Nellie Welliver Dress Shoppe and American Car & Foundry, both of Berwick; New York Engineering, and Sharps and Flat Music Store. Mrs. Styers was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Berwick, and its Martha Sunday School Class. A member of Berwick Hospital Corp. Auxiliary, she was a volunteer for the Berwick Meals on Wheels program and was a former member of Berwick Women's Civic Club. She is survived by her husband Gordon M. "Pat" Styers, to whom she married Aug. 14, 1992; four children: Ralph Edwin Johnson and Mrs. Joseph (Ann) DeMelfi, both of Berwick; Mrs. Ronald (Karen) Young, Bloomsburg; and Dr. William F. Johnson, Lightstreet; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; two stepdaughters: Mrs. David (Connie) Serra, Berwick; and Mrs. James (Betsy) Gavitt, Cape May Court House, N.J.; four step-granchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick, with her pastor, the Rev. Joseph F. Brady, officiating. Mrs Jones (Genevieve H.) was born on September 10, 1913 in Register, PA the daughter of Nathan S. Hess and Nettie Kale Hess. She attended grade school in the one room school in Register and graduated from Huntington Mills High School in the class of 1931. She graduated from Mansfield State Teachers College with a degree in Home Economics and English. Upon graduation, she taught in Bernise and Shickshinney school systems. On June 8, 1939, she married Wilson R. Jones and together they had two sons, Kenneth E. Jones, born in April 1943 and Karl T. Jones, born June, 1948. After her sons left home, she went back to substitute teaching in the Plains Elementary Schools. In 1980, she & Wilson sold their Plains home and went on the road, wintering in Texas and spending summers in Pa. Later they set up home in Moody, Texas. In April 1987 Wilson passed away, after which she volunteered at a Day Care Center. She enjoyed and loved assisting the children and helping the teachers.

Wilson R. Jones, 74 a retired Civil Service officer, died Sunday, April 19, 1987 in Moody Texas. Born March 4, 1913 in Plains, PA. he was the son of the late Morgan H. and Mabel (Tilley) Jones. He graduated from Plains Memorial High School, and earned his BA in Accounting from New York University. He served in the Army Medical Corp during WWII. He was married the former Genevieve Hess, June 8, 1939, in Nutley, NJ. After retiring, the couple spent most of their time traveling. They moved to the Moody and McGregor, Texas area in 1984 from Plains, Pa. He was a member of Plains Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Genevieve, Moody; sons, Kenneth E., Califon, N.J.; Karl T., Hewitt, Texas; sister, Ruth Mohr, Blairstown, N.J.; three grandchildren.

Edna Brown Jordan, 89, a resident of 2325 Wentworth Street passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Avante of Reidsville. Born in High Point on September 10, 1921 to Lee and Ina Jones Brown, she had made her home in this area for her entire life. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church of Reidsville but had attended the Salvation Army Church in High Point for many years. She loved to work crosswords, to fish, and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by an infant son Billy and by her husband Charlie E. Jordan on Sept 5, 1998. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Apple of Reidsville, and son Roger Jordan of Asheboro, eleven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Floral Garden Park Cemetery with Major Andy Wiley and Captain Robbie Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Wallburg from 6 until 8 p.m. The family asks that memorials be made to the Salvation Army Church, 704 Barnes Street, Reidsville, NC 27320 or to your local Alzheimer's Association in Mrs. Jordan's memory.

Gay Jordan Succumbs On Sunday Services for Gay Jordan, 73, of 702 W. Walnut St., Hastings, who died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, May 1, at Pennock Hospital, where he had been a patient for eight days, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Cannon Don M. Gury officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Jordan was born in Charlotte on March 31, 1904, the son of Winifield and Belle Jordan. He was employed at Madusa-Portland Cement Co, in New York for several years and was then a field engineer with Allied Chemical Co. for 25 years. He was a member of the Episcopal Church in Hastings and a life member of the Charlotte F. & A.M. Mr. Jordan retired in 1969 after being associated with the Allied Chemical & Dye Corporation for 47 years, working with the Solvay Division. He had served as a director of the Materials & Services Division of the American Road Builders Association. He was named an honorary alumnus of Michigan Technological University at Houghton. Mr. Jordan was awarded the Distinguished Highway Industry Award on March 14, 1973 by the County Road Association of Michigan. The award is made in recognition of people in private industry who have done much to advance the cause of better highways and maintained the highest level of business ethics. He was named to the Barry County Canvassing Board in 1971. Mr. Jordan served as president of the Barry County Sportsman's Club in 1947-48. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Stem, two daughters, Mrs. Al (Constance) Walke of Cascade and Mrs. D.K. (Carolyn) Macoit of West Bloomfield; 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. G. Mary Jordan, 80, of 702 West Walnut Street, Hastings, passed away Sunday, October 6, 1991 at Tendercare, Hastings. Mrs. Jordan was born September 18, 1911 in Hastings, the daughter of Kellar and Grace (Bullard) Stem. She was raised in Hastings and attended Hastings Schools, graduating from Hastings High School. She went on to attend Frances Shimer College in Cairo, Illinois. She returned to Hastings in 1945 from Sylvania, Ohio and has resided in Hastings since that time. She was married to Garrel D. (Gay) Jordan in 1930. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Mrs. Jordan is survived by two daughters, Constance Walke of Ada and Carolyn DeBreau of Los Gatos, California; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gay Jordan May 1, 1977. Respecting her wishes there will be no funeral services. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Hastings. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Arrangements were made by the Wren Funeral Home, Hastings.

Robert H. Kalis, 89, of Reynolds Avenue, Pottstown, widower of Verna (Levan) Kalis, died on Monday, at the Golden Living Center, Phoenixville, where he was a guest for approximately one week following a short hospitalization. Born in Pottstown, PA, he was a son of the late Howard E. Kalis, Sr., and the late Elnora (Mauger) Kalis. Surviving is one sister, Gloria Husband, of Chesterfield, Michigan and he was predeceased by one brother, Howard E. Kalis, Jr., and three sisters, Eleanor Kalis, Doris Kalis and Ruth Endy. Mr. Kalis was in the Army during World War II serving with the Army's First Infantry Division (the Big Red One). While with the First Infantry Division he participated in multiple major battles and campaigns in Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. While participating in the Normandy invasion Mr. Kalis was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. In addition to multiple service and unit medals and citations he also received the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal and American Defense Service Medal. He was preceded in death by his wife Verna. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be private and there will be no viewing.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving with the Sea Bees. Lewis S. Keller, aged 67, one of Topton's best known citizens, died at 4.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home on Franklin street, in that borough, after an illness of six weeks. Mr. Keller served as borough assessor for twenty-one years and was also a member of town council. Mr. Keller grew up in Topton. As a young man he was employed in the furniture plant of Tilghman Delong, and later when the Boyertown Casket Company had the plant he was a foreman and with the reorganization of the Delong Furniture Company he continued in the service of the company. Mr. Keller was a member of Christ's Reformed church at Bowers and was very active in the affairs of the congregation. He served as an elder and was also a member of the choir. The deceased was the son of the late Jacob and Mary (nee Sicher) Keller. He was twice married, his first wife being the late Katie Levan, and his second was formerly Miss Lizzie Diener. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Samuel Knauss, Boyertown; Mrs. Howard Strunk, Topton; Harry Keller, Greensburg, N.C.; William Keller, West Reading. Three sisters, Mrs. Annie Moyer, Topton; Mrs. Emma Hoch, Reading, and Mrs. Peter Kiefer, Kutztown, and seven grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held from his late home in Topton on Friday at 2 p.m., Standard Time. Services will be conducted at the house by Rev. George B. Smith. Interment will be made in the cemetery at Bowers church.

Helen Kern, 89, of Lafayette, died of cancer, comfortably at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 with Casey, granddaughter and Vickie, daughter-in-law by her side at her daughter-in-law's residence. Tiger, her faithful companion never left her side. Born in Lafayette on September 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Melinda (Peter) Leibenguth. She was raised on a farm near Lafayette and graduated from Dayton High School. Ms. Kern was a receptionist and stenographer for Landis and Gyr, formerly Duncan Electric, for 30 years before retiring. She was a strong, savvy, independent woman of the Methodist faith. She looked forward to playing euchre weekly with her close friends at Morton Center. Among her other hobbies, Ms. Kern enjoyed crocheting and reading with her beloved poodle, Tiger on her lap. She had a blessed life full of good friends; a thoughtful neighbor, Virginia Kemmer; a supportive network of caregivers, Harold Harsch and Margie Staley; nieces, nephews and their families; and a caring family that loved her. She had fond memories and best wishes for the families of her two former husbands, Jay Kern and Donald Gray. Special appreciation to Guardian Angel Hospice staff for their kindness, sensitivity and compassionate hearts. They provided comfort and stress relief for Helen and her family during a very difficult time. Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Vickie (Jones) Gray of Lafayette; one brother, Raymond Leibenguth of Lafayette; and a dearly loved, granddaughter, Casey A. Gray. She was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Waide and son, Michael D. Gray. Helen was so proud of her son and his many accomplishments. He was a wonderful loving son, caring husband and outstanding father who died of cancer in 1996. Michael graduated from Jefferson H.S., Purdue and served his country as a Captain in the Army. He was also a member of the Hong Kong and LAS Vegas Mensa Chapters. Michael died while working more than ten years as an Engineer for Saudi ARAMCO Oil Company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Philip Wendel Klein, the ancestor of this family, was a native of Germany, and immigrated to America on the ship Phoenix, arriving at Philadelphia on October 20, 1744. He settled in Weisenberg township, on a farm about a mile northeast of Seipstown. As early as 1746 his name appears in this section, and on Dec. 5, 1753 he secured a warrant for land, which he sold to his son, John Jacob, on Nov. 10, 1761. Philip Wendel Klein was one of the organizers of the Lutheran congregation at Ziegel church, where his name appears in 1750. His sons were: John Adam, John Jacob, Lorentz, and Peter. John Adam Kline bought in 1761, from Peter Krirnt, a property about a mile above Lyon Valley, which he sold in 1773 to Adam Baer, and removed from the township. John Jacob Kline sold the homestead on April 1, 1769, to Mark Pontius and removed to Salisbury Township.

Lorentz Kline, the third son of Philip Wendel, was born Feb. 15, 1735. He married Eva Stettler, daughter of Christopher and Margaret Stettler, and about 1767 removed from Weisenberg Township to Salisbury Township, where he became the owner of 300 acres of land along the Little Lehigh. He died July 6, 1819. His wife was born Dec. 25, 1740, and died May 21, 1821. They had these children: Anna Margaret, born 1763; Christopher, born 1765; Elizabeth, born 1767; Peter, born1769; Catharine, born 1772; Henry, born 1775 and Magdalena, born 1779. Elizabeth Klein, the second daughter, born Oct. 28, 1767 married John Bogert, and died Dec. 18, 1867, aged 100 years, 1 month, and 21 days.

Peter Klein, the second son, was born June 11, 1769, and died April 22, 1858. He married Anna Maria Bogert, who was born Aug. 26, 1776, and died Dec. 1, 1843. Christopher Kline, eldest son of Lorenz, was born in Weisenberg Township, June 3, 1765. His sponsors at baptism were his Stettler grandparents. He cultivated the land owned by his father, who survived him, until his accidental death by the discharge of his gun on Nov. 12, 1809. He married Maria Elizabeth Bogert, who was born Oct. 14, 1774 and died April 12, 1861. Their children were Lorentz, born Aug. 17, 1794; Hanna, born Aug. 9, 1797; Salome, born June 11, 1800; Elizabeth, born May 15, 1806, died Sept. 16, 1830; and Reuben, born Feb. 23, 1809, died Nov. 19, 1897 who married Judith Wieand.

Lorentz Kline, eldest son of Christopher, married Lydia Kemmerer, who was born April 17, 1804, and died Sept. 24, 1879. He was a prosperous farmer and became the owner of three farms. His death occurred May 13, 1882. He had six children: Edwin; Helena (Mrs. John Heinley); Tilghman K., born June 14, 1829, died June 20, 1899; Lydia, (Mrs. William Lerch); Mary A. (Mrs. John Hottenstein), and Benjamin F.

Peter Kline, second son of Lorentz, was born June, 1769, and died April 22, 1858. He married Anna Maria Bogert, who was born Aug. 26, 1776, and died Dec. 1, 1843. He built a stone house on his farm in Salisbury, which still stands. His son, Peter, was born Jan. 14, 1807, died March 29, 1893. Peter Kline Jr., owned two farms, each over 70 acres, one of which is now owned by Hess Bros. He was a farmer all his life and active in the Salisbury Lutheran congregation, where he was a deacon and elder.

She was The widow of the late Walter H. Kleintop who passed away November 1980 Born in Conshohocken, PA, Montgomery Co, she was the daughter of the late Evan H. and Bessie M. (Everson) Maxwell Sr. She was a Charter member of Emmanuel Assembly of God Church, Allentown. She taught Sunday school many years there, and also was in the church Choir. She is predeceased in death by her son Kenneth, and a Brother Evan Maxwell. Charles Truman Kleinsmith, 80, of Harlingen, Texas, formerly of Mulberry, Indiana, died at noon Sunday at Baptist Valley Hospital, Harlingen, Texas, after a seven-week illness. Born near Mulberry, Indiana on October 30 1894, he was the son of Henry Joseph and Ida (Steckel) Kleinsmith. He married Esther Leibinguth, and she died January, 1953. In 1954, he married Charlotte Lehr, and she survives. Mr. Kleinsmith was a retired farmer and dairyman. He was a member of Harlingen Wesley Methodist Church, the Mulberry Lodge 618 F&AM and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Cue of New Orleans, Mrs. Carl (Ruth) Silverthorn of Mulberry, Indiana and Mrs. Norma Oliver of Alamonte, Florida; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Dale McKee of Terre Haute, Indiana; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30am Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, Mulberry, Indiana, with Rev. Gerhard H. Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Fairhaven Cemetery. Mrs. Ester Kleinsmith, 59, of Mulberry, wife of Charles T. Kleinsmith, died at 12:45 pm at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, She had suffered a stroke Tuesday morning. Born August 8, 1893 in Washington Township, Clinton County, she was a daughter of James and Maria Wehr Leibinguth. She was married February 12, 1916 to Charles T. Kleinsmith who survives. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical and Reform Church at Mulberry. She had lived all her life in the Mulberry Community. Survivors include three daughter, Mrs. Charles Cue, New Orleans, La. Rev. Arthur W. Kleintop Jr., 82, of Bethlehem Township, died Friday, April 11, 2008 in Blough Health Care Center, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Wilma (Whitebread) Kleintop. They celebrated 53 years of marriage on February 5. Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Arthur W. Sr. and Elva (Noll) Kleintop. He served his country in the Army in the European theater during World War II. He received his B.S. degree from Muhlenberg College in 1950 and then his M.Div. from Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, in 1953. He was ordained to the Lutheran Ministry in 1953 and would have been ordained 55 years next month. He served the people of God in the Hobbie Lutheran Parish, Mahoning Valley Lutheran Parish, Long Swamp/Mertztown Lutheran Church, St. Johns Lutheran Church, Sayre, St. Johns Lutheran Church, Farmersville, and Zion First Hungarian Church, south Bethlehem, and was the Visitation Pastor at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Stones Crossing. He also served on various Synod committees in northeastern Pennsylvania. He also served on the board of trustees of Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing, Sayre, for many years. Survivors: Beloved wife; son, William A. Kleintop and his wife Lisa of Ambler; daughter, Cathy Konrad of Dallas, Texas; brother, Earl F. She served faithfully as a world missionary evangelist in Hawaii, Haiti, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan and Lebanon. He worked for the former American Can Co. Dixie Products, Wilson, for 40 years before retiring in March 1973 as a departmental supervisor. The firm, now known as James River Corp., named him man of the year in 1958 for his outstanding contribution to manufacturing. Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Walter R. and Maude (Roseberry) Kline. He was a member of Memorial United Church of Christ, Wilson. Mrs. Eva S. E. (Guldin) Knappenberger, 78, of 518 S. Glenwood St., Allentown, formerly of 519 N. 3rd St., Emmaus, died Monday in Allentown Hospital. She was the widow of Peter Knappenberger. She was employed by Hess's for 15 years, retiring in 1961. Born in Longswamp, she was a daughter of the late James and Limella (Kershner) Guldin. She was a charter member of the Emmaus Garden Club and a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Emmaus and a charter member of its Modern Priscilla's group. Surviving are a daughter Carol, wife of Herman Nace Jr., with whom she resided; a sister Florence, wife of William Thompson of Citrus Heights, Calif.; three brothers, Charles of Bellingham, Wash., and Lawson and James, both of Topton; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Lovina (nee Levan) Knappenberger, wife of Thomas F. Knappenberger, former residents of Topton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William H. Parr, 5209 Ellenberger avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, on Monday, October 11, 1926, aged 74 years. Mr. and Mrs. Knappenberger had been living with their daughter for the past several years. Mrs. Knappenberger was a daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Levan and was raised in Topton where she resided for more than fifty years. She was a highly respected resident of that place and was a member of St. Peter's Reformed church. She is survived by a son, Peter, of Emaus; three daughters, Mrs. William H. Parr, Indianapolis, Indiana; Mrs. Henry Reifinger, Alburtis; Mrs. Harry Betz, Reading; five stepsons, George, Allentown; William, New Land, Connecticut; Harry, Brooklyn; Charles, Reading; and Fred, York; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Peter Moyer, Mrs. George Reinert and Mrs. Mahlon Quinter, Reading, and Mrs. Caleb Harrison, Chicago. Two sisters, Mrs. John Romig, Alburtis, and Mrs. Sarah Wehr, Allentown, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive. Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed, although it is known that the body will be brought east for burial. Undertaker Schofer of Topton has charge.

Knepper. They lived near Pittsburgh, Pa., where her husband worked for Westinghouse until he retired in 1981. They then returned to Winfield and lived just north of Strother Field. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Winfield and in Pennsylvania. When she returned to Winfield, she became a member of Hackney Community Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Merle Knepper, Winfield; a son, Rod Knepper, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Winton Long, Winfield; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Knepper went to work for Westinghouse Corp. in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1940 and supervised the manufacturing of electrical generators. After retiring in 1981, the couple moved back to Winfield. Knepper was a member of IEEE, an engineering society, and the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Pittsburgh. He was a former member of Hackney Community Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Rod Knepper, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Carl Knepper, Wichita; a sister, Margery Quigg, Harper; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Miles J. Knepper, 80, of 5109 Kingwood Road, Markleton and most recently of Country Manor, Jerome, went to be with the Lord May 1, 2000 while a patient at Somerset Hospital. Miles was horn March 19, 1920 in Stonycreek Township, a son of the late Royal W. and Blanche (Yoder) Knepper. He was preceded in death by an infant brother; a sister, Bernice Carbaugh, and two grandchildren, Dean Eric Knepper and Rhonda Lynne Koshewitz. He is survived by his wife, the former Emily Maust, breaking a union of marriage of nearly 57 years. Also surviving are his son Ronald J., married to Cheryl Herr, Leola; his daughter, Phyllis J. married to Robert H. Koshewitz, Hollsopple; his son Paul, married to Grace Fitz, Dallastown; his son Robert married to Mary Yoder, Lancaster, and his son Lee, married to Brenda Erick, Red Lion. His surviving 13 grandchildren are Craig married to Barby, Curt married to Julie; Chad, Chris, Amy and Robert P. Koshewitz, Angie, married to Patrick Freuman, Kristi, Laurie, Lisa, Matthew, Joel, and Rebecca, and his precious great-granddaughter Julia. Miles is also survived by his sisters: Ruth Saylor, Rockwood; Elizabeth Brougher, Markleton; LeFerne Saylor, Rockwood; Pauline Hostetler, Mechanicsburg; Roberta, Greensburg, and brothers Royal Jr., Markleton, and Clifford, Somerset. Miles was a faithful member of Somerset Alliance Church where he served on the church governing board and was assistant church treasurer. A loving husband and father, his priorities were serving God, his church and his family. He owned and operated the Kingwood Welding Shop. He worked for the Pennsylvania Fish Commission 16 years as deputy and waterways patrolman, and he was a past member of the Rockwood Area School Board and Carpenter's Union. He was a retired government certified welder on construction. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset, and also one hour prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Somerset Alliance Church with Pastor James Vandervort officiating. Interment will be at the Somerset Memorial Park. Her passing ends a marriage union of 52 years. Friends were received at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home. Her remains were removed at 10 a.m. Wednesday to the Brotherton Church of the Brethren to lie in state until time of funeral at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Owen Preston and Rev. Rush Brinton Knepper, 91, of Penn Hall Manor, Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday afternoon, November 1, 2006, at Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg. Born May 22, 1915, in Taylor Township, Fulton County, he was the son of the late John S. and Ruth (Strait) Knepper. He was married to Myrtle C. Clippinger on Nov. 23, 1940. Mrs. Knepper survives at Penn Hall Manor. He is survived by a sister, Elva Lane of Hustontown, and a brother, Herbert R. Knepper of Johnson, Vt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry B. Knepper. He was of the Protestant faith. He retired from Chambersburg Implement Co., Chambersburg. He was a World War II veteran, serving nearly five years with the U.S. Army. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2006, at M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. Pastor George Clippinger officiated. Interment as made in Center Cemetery, Waterfall.

Ira S. Knoble, 72 years old, chief burgess of the Borough of Glendon, died suddenly at 7:30 o'clock this morning, at his home at 179 Main street, Glendon. He was stricken ill yesterday with a heart attack. Mr. Knoble was a native of Williams Township and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Knoble. He spent the great part of his life in Glendon and for many years was employed as a machinist at the Ingersoll Rand plant, being retired about three years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Knoble, a daughter Mrs. Perry Knoble, of 3008 William Penn Highway; two sons, Irwin Knoble, of Plainfield N.J. and Ira Knoble Jr., of Glendon; two sisters, Mrs. Francis Strause, of Allentown, and Mrs. Alfred Farleigh, of Brodheadsville, and a brother, Austin Knoble, of 916 South 24th street, Wilson. Vera M. (Werner) Kohler, 91, formerly of Dallastown, died Tuesday morning, September 6, 2005, at Country Meadows at Leader Heights. She was the wife of Lynn A. Kohler who died January 2, 1991. There will be no viewing. Following cremation at White Rose Crematorium, a memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 14, at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Spry, 2385 South Queen St. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. She was the daughter of the late Oliver & Laura E. Werner. She graduated William Penn 1932 with honors and pursued additional courses at York Junior College. She was employed for 35 years as a junior accountant and office manager at York United Hosiery and Yorkshire Hosiery Co. She and her late husband, Lynn, attended many Elder Hostels after retiring. Vera was a charter member of the Colonial York Charter Chapter of the American Business Women where she held various offices and was the chapter's "Woman of the Year" in 1968 and 1969; member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Spry, where she had been council member; member of the Woman's Club of York; member of the Suburban Garden Club; member of the "Golden Nuggets" of St. Mary's Church; Group of Grandview; volunteer at York Hospital and member of its auxiliary; charter member of the South Central Genealogical Society; member of Historical Society of York and the auxiliary. Mrs. Kohler is survived by one son, Stephen W. and his wife, Diana K. Sipe of Reisterstown, Md.; one grandson, Scott Sipe; and one granddaughter, Lisa Ferguson; five great-grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Joyce Kohr; five step grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services for Lavena E. Kummer, 96, Logansport, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Gundrum Funeral Home. She died at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, in Miller’s Merry Manor. Lavena was born on March 4, 1912, on a farm north of Rossville, to William and Julia Leibenguth Seager. She was married July 1, 1955, in Logansport, to Robert Kummer. She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. Lavena attended school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Union Township School in Howard County with 15 other classmates, although she took her senior year over due to her records being misplaced. Lavena was a homemaker and seamstress. She made numerous wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses from pictures her clients brought her from magazines. In her 70s and 80s she won several awards for her handsewn quilts. When quilting became too heavy to handle, she switched to needlepoint. Surviving with her husband are three children, son, Dick and Bev Zimmerman, Englewood, Fla., daughter, Vicki and Bob Champion, Belvidere, Ill., and daughter, Jeanie and Steve Jones, Logansport; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Genevieve Hawkins, Kokomo; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Treso Ruegamer, and beloved cat, Dusty. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carl D. Kurtz, 83, of Williamsport, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at his home. Born Aug. 7, 1929, in Williamsport, he was a son of Harry L. and Irene (Farver) Kurtz. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois M. (Kelley) Kurtz in 1995. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Carl loved the outdoors, fishing, playing cards (especially setback) and was a member of the VFW 844, Republican League, Polish Club, 40&8 and many others. Surviving are two children, Janet L. Kurtz (Jim) of DuBoistown and Chuck V. Kurtz of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Justin, Jessica and Kristie; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Hunter; and a sister, Marlene Hill of Williamsport.
