Schaffer Family History

Our Schaffer line begins in Germany with my 4th great grandfather Paul J. Schaffer. He was born in Germany in 1817 and immigrated to the United States in 1865. For a short time he lived in Brooklyn, New York and later moved to Cementon, Pennsylvania where he lived until 1870. He then bought Jonas Dinkey property near Egypt, Lehigh County. H made baskets and ladders and was a skilled mechanic. He was a watchman on the Lehigh Valley Railroad from 1870 until his accidental death in 1874. He is buried in the Egypt Cemetery. By his first wife he had these children: Kate, Janetta, John and Conrad. He married a second time and that union resulted in three children: Lizzie, Henry P., and Paul E. The only wife I know of is Vella Hindman.

Paul E. Schaffer was married twice. His first wife Helena Hoffman and then his second wife Elemina Bender. His union with Elemina resulted in these children: Anna, Henry P., John D., and Paul E.

John D. Schaffer was married to Mary Lovina Dillinger, daughter of Jesse and Miltilda (Schmidt) Dillinger. John was killed instantly when his horses spooked. He was thrown from his carriage and hit a fence post. Mary Lovina would then become the wife of John's brother Henry. The children of John and Mary are: Dasa, Henry Paul, Jeanette, Mary J., Edgar, John D., and Anna E.

Henry Paul Schaffer was married to Getrude M. (Hess) Schaffer. She was the daughter of Amandes and Julianne (Abel) Hess. Henry lived in Northampton and was a millwright, then later worked at the Bath Portland Cement Company before retiring. Henry and Getrude had the following children: Althea B., Russell (died as an infant) and Helen E. (adopted).

Althea B. Schaffer married Albert A. Leibenguth Sr. The marriage didn't last long and she would go on to marry two more times. Althea and Albert had a son. Althea then had a son but never married his father. Her second marriage resulted in a daughter and son.

That's all I can say at this point.
